Unicorn Alpaca Walks
Meet the Alpacas
Our herd of over thirty alpacas are the real centrepiece of Wilderley. Our original 'team' started with three fluffy fellas called Fergus, Mo and Dexter. Initially introduced to the farm as pets and 'chicken guards', we fell in love with their wonderful natures and wanted to expand the herd, share the fun, and start walking! Very soon we had people coming from far and wide to walk with these wonderful personalities and experience a slice of life on the farm. Our famous trio has since grown to become a band of thirty-two with a mini-llama thrown in for good measure!
In light of our ethos of animal rescue, we take in alpacas who are in need of a home, whilst others have been with us since birth. As well as just being gorgeous beings, our alpacas really are 'green' animals. Every year, they happily give-up their fleeces (in return for some sunshine) as well as producing what is known in the gardening world as 'alpaca gold' - the most perfect manure for the garden. Some of their fleece is donated to the wild birds for their nests, while the rest is sold in our little on-site shop for crafters and spinners.
Fergus
One of our original band of three, Fergus is a gentle soul who walks with our younger and more nervous visitors. He is the picture of calm and a wise leader of the herd.
Comet
Comet was born with a beautiful 'comet shape' on his topknot, hence the name. He has become a rather famous fellow for his love of dispensing kisses - so much so, he has his own Instagram page called 'kissingcomet'.
Mo
Mo is our superstar and the real 'dandy' of the herd. In his previous life, he was a Supreme Champion and picked up lots of ribbons in the show ring. He's very popular with our walkers and loves a good chat along the way.
Zeus
Zeus was a birthday present for Wilderley from the girls at Unicorn Alpaca walks and what an amazing gift he turned out to be. He's a miniature llama with big banana-shaped ears and a huge personality!
Dexter
A real sweetheart and the clown of the herd. Dexter is what's called a 'Suri' - famous in Peru for bringing good fortune to the herd which we think he rather has.
Rafiki
Is the baby of the bunch. Having suffered an injury to his leg early on in life, we was hand-reared by one of our wonderful volunteers, Vicky. He received tabloid fame for being snapped by a passer-by sitting happily in her car.
Adoption certificates make wonderful gifts and help us pay to feed our rescues. Please get in touch, if you'd like to know more.

Come alpaca walking
The walk takes you on our alpaca trail past a little runway and on to a circular walk around our top fields. It lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on the size of group and how frequently your alpaca stops for a grassy snack. Afterwards you'll be offered some refreshments and a short tour of the farm - meeting all our other animals from the Polish chickens with their shaggy topknots to Bear, our fabulous Skunk to our cheeky team of Pygmy goats, guinea pig family, and much much more. Hang a wish on our famous wishing tree & enjoy all the fun of the farm.
The cost of each walk is £25 per person. Group bookings are negotiable over 10 people.

We had a fantastic time yesterday, the ladies were all really lovely, they made us feel so comfortable and at home and the setting is just beautiful. The alpacas we walked were hilarious, each with their own personalities and stubbornness, only walking at the pace they wanted to walk!
I would recommend this experience to anyone, people of all ages will enjoy meeting and walking the alpacas and meeting the rest of the animals. You can see how well looked after they all are and how happy and content they seem. We will definitely be back!
SUE HERVEY SAYS
Well, if we only do one proper day out this summer it has to be the farm and alpacas at Shipmeadow!
We booked a private slot with all the animals just for us to see on our own for three hours and with no other visitors, we could have not had it any better and felt totally relaxed! Thank you to the farm team - it was an amazing, well-run, socially distant visit for us. Taking all our health considerations in mind, we were so pleased. Happy kids, happy mum and dad
